Hello, I'm Claire!

I am a hydrologist and civil engineer. I conduct interdisciplinary research on river ecosystems, water resources management, and capacity building. I aim to improve the connection between academic research and societal application by collaborating with stakeholders and producing "user-ready" research.

I am currently a Postdoctoral Associate in the Tropical Rivers Lab of Florida International University. I am part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists that is partnering with various action-oriented institutions to advance freshwater ecosystem conservation in the Amazon River Basin.

I am an editor of the new Community Science journal and its Community Science Exchange platform.

I completed my PhD in civil and environmental engineering with an emphasis in hydrology from the University of Washington in August 2020. I am a licensed Professional Engineer and previously worked as a consulting environmental engineer at CH2M (now Jacobs). I hold a Bachelor of Science in civil and environmental engineering from the University of California, Berkeley (UCB). I was born and raised in Madera, the heart of California.

I have previously been a leader of interdisciplinary and action-oriented organizations such as the UW Freshwater Initiative and UCB Engineers Without Borders-USA.
